You can go two ways about such a system - A high end server plus a high end workstation, or you can build a Gaming computer with a cleverly configured storage system and a fast CPU cluster.
Whe I built my earlier systems, in the 1980's and then at the turn of the century, I cobbled up a clever processor cooling system. It was complex, unreliable, and messy. But it cooled well. There was no way I was going to repeat this effort. With neither the health, nor the money to put into such a system, I settled for an stock AMD processor, in a gaming case, etc. One look at the OEM heatsink and I knew it had to go. Decent design but careless, ignorant manufacturing took an OK cooling system and reduced it to "barely stopping a processor meltdown". Overclocking? not even 2%. Apparently, the MB maker knows that too and the OC software throttles back sharply when you specify OEM cooling. I started looking at water cooling but the complexity and cost turned me off. I decided to try one of the AIO (All In One :-), and chose this system. Soo after ordering arrived a nice box, and within was a very nicely packaged system. It was deceptively simple, no tanks, not much really, but everything looked very professionally made. Installation was a breeze, the only hesitation came in the wiring. The various cables and connectors did not exactly agree with the realities on the MB. Soon I figured out something that "should work" and indeed it did. I simply plugged the pump into a pump/fan header on the MB. I had the idea that power to the pump ought to be coming from a separate connection from the light show, and the dedicated pump connection should be a variable speed one. I am not sure exactly what it ended being but I think the pump runs full tilt 100% of the time. The two fans do not have a light show, but I got over the disappointment soon.
Once the system re-booted and the monitoring software was located, installed and started, I was amazed; No special sensors, no dedicated refrigeration unit, and no noise at all. The fans sort of churn in leisure, the pump? It should be running as the "cool" light show is on and the CPU is COLD, the pump must be doing something. Any concern I had about constant vibrations from the pump rigidity bolted to the CPU evaporated - there is no mechanical witness of the pump running, only thermal - the CPU is COLD with normal running, and only slightly warm under heavy OC. In normal operation, the MB registers 109-121 degrees Fahrenheit, the CPU die reports 91-92 degrees. With all 16 cores running at 100%, constantly, the MB heats up to 156 degrees, the die stabilizes around 138 degrees, and the air in the case does not climb above 111 degrees. Room temperature is a nice 72 degrees.
Please note that this is a totally artificial load. Actual, useful software cannot keep all 16 cores running 100% of the time. There are several practical throttles in the system that coke "normal" processing. But look at this entry level CPU cooling system. Perhaps one could do better, but why? This is an efficient little system, and it is beautifully made too.
As far as cooling is concerned the 360ex seems to do the job just fine. In my experience the 360ex a little better (approximately 3-5 degrees overall better, nothing earth shattering) than the Wraith Prism that comes stock with the 3700x. The 360ex cooling performance is about what I expected when I bought it. (As a side note, the Wraith Prism cooler is actually a very effective, quiet and nice looking cooler.) The only drawback for me with the 360ex is that I can hear the faint whine of the pump. It's not super noticeable, but it's there. It's an electric motor pushing fluid so it's expected that it will make a little noise. The Wraith prism was almost totally silent at cpu idle. Keep in mind that my Core P3 is totally open and sits on my desk right beside me. In my experience the 360ex pump noise at idle temps produces a little more noise compared to the Wraith Prism. The 360ex 3 fans seem to be very effective and quite given the various cpu temps.
Installation instructions were adequate for me. Check you tube for install tutorial if necessay, there are a couple good ones.
Packaging was fine and the radiator, pump and access were all safe and sound in the box when it arrived.
I disassembled the the pump housing so I could paint It satin black to match my build. Thus was easy to do. Again, if you want to do this check you tube for help if needed.
All in all the 360ex is a TOTAL win for me. The 360ex looks absolutely great in my Core P3A. After watching many, many you tube AIO review videos I settled on the 360ex. I am absolutely glad I chose this one.
